Algorithm turns plant into a microphone

Researchers reconstruct audio from the vibrations of leaves in a potted plant filmed using a high speed camera. The tech could be used in the future for forensic analysis of videos. Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Microsoft, and Adobe have developed an algorithm that can reconstruct an audio signal by analysing minute vibrations of objects de picted in video. In one set of experiments, they were able to recover intelligible speech from the vibrations of a potato-chip bag photographed from 15 feet away through soundproof glass. Read More
