22K engg seats vacant after 1st round of seat allotment

After the first allotment of seats for engineering degree courses, 22,856 seats remained empty, said ACPC sources. This includes 14,168 seats that remained vacant after students failed to report to the help centres with the required documents. Device mimics trees to split water with solar energy

Through an energy conversion process that mimics that of a tree, a University of Wiscon sin-Madison materials scientist is making strides in renewable energy tech for making hydrogen. Xudong Wang, an assistant professor at the university, recently collaborated with researcher, Zhiyong Cai, in the US Forest Products Laboratory in Madison on research to use cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) for water splitting, a process that converts solar energy to hydrogen fuel. Attach filter to any bottle for clean water

Researchers have created a water filtering device that weighs less than 100 grams, needs no power to run and can be attached to any pet bottle to provide clean potable water… Roughly 780 million people around the world have no access to clean drinking water. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 3.4 million people die from water-related diseases every year. A Swiss Federal Institute of Technology student Jeremy Nussbaumer set himself the goal of making a contribution to solving this problem. Working with researchers from a group led by Wendelin Stark, the 23-year-old spent a year researching a membrane filter and developing a prototype. Read More
